The support of old Spendee versions will be stopped on May 2nd. Please understand that after the 2nd of May, we will no longer be able to retrieve your data.
We want you to continue using Spendee, so please update your app to Spendee 5. Since our old servers will no longer be available, this is a necessary step to make sure your data is safe & that you can continue the financial journey you’ve been building.
We understand that our release wasn’t the smoothest and that changes can be hard. But it’s been four months and we’re confident that Spendee 5 is heading in the right direction. Old versions will no longer be supported, developed or maintained.
Why The Change? 🚀
Now that you understand why this is an inevitable step, here is a simple explanation why the change was needed:
- We replaced the sync solution from scratch,
- We rewrote the core-foundation of iOS and Android apps,
- We spent hours and hours researching, user testing and analysing how we could bring the biggest value to our users. Thanks to that, we redesigned the app structure and added some features to make the new Spendee more intuitive and useful — and more new features are ahead!
To make it absolutely clear: it’s not just an update. It’s a brand new rewritten app that relies on different servers and enables us to simply add features & solve bugs quickly. The main reason behind this change was the problems with sync and inconsistency of data we were accumulating over time. The old versions were different for both iOS and Android, making it even harder to fix potential inaccuracies.
Spendee 5 has a brand new backend and is relying on the synchronization platform Google Firestore. The app is written in React Native, where the environment serves both iOS and Android — making it easier to implement changes. The advantage is also in data management, where we’re relying on Google Cloud which meets the strictest security compliance policies. In the following weeks, we will also be substituting the bank connection engine.
🇨🇳 Please note, that if you’re based in China, the extended partnership with Google might cause your app additional problems or even that your app won’t work at all.

Labels ⭐️
These beauties help categorize transactions in a more precise way! You can use them as subcategories, track different occasions or 50/30/20 budgeting categories. They’re independent from categories and will enable you to analyse your expenses in detail. Read more about them at Labels 101 & Labels 201. And we cannot wait to show you how they’re going to be integrated into the Spendee experience in the future.
Activity Cards 📈

We’re ready to give you tips & tricks to help you with your daily decision making. We are preparing useful statistics, challenges and articles that you can read in the Activity section. We will be guiding you through all of the necessary steps to build financial health. Activity feed is something that will be a centrepiece of the whole Spendee experience in the future.
Better Overview of All Wallets 💵
The “Wallet section” is so neat & tidy now 🤤 The wallets in it are well-arranged and bring much more insights than before 😍 such as last sync info (in bank wallets) and foreign currency wallet balances calculated into the main account currency.

We managed to arrange budgets in a way that helps you evaluate how you did compare to the past! 💰 It’s also right on the budgets screen, so there’s no need for an extensive search 👀
Dark Theme 🌚
The dark theme was, by all means, the most requested feature. What’s the fuss about? 🖤 It’s pretty beneficial for your eyesight, phone battery & turns out it helps you concentrate your attention. Now available for both iOS and Android!

Hiding & Archiving Wallets 👋
You have the freedom to choose which wallets to display, hide or archive! 🤩 This is extremely practical when using wallets for occasional travelling, hiding your old bank account or moving abroad!
And that’s not everything! More tweaks are waiting to be discovered by you. 🤗 The important thing is that it works, and it’s time to upgrade. 🤓 Your data is still safe & sound in the old app, but that won’t be the case for too long.
⚠️ Spendee 3 & Spendee 4 will no longer exist. The old servers will be turned off very soon.
